Quality Control and Traceability

Pen Mill Feeds Ltd is fully approved and compliant with Universal Feed Assurance Standard (UFAS). This is a code of practice in which the mill is independently audited at least annually to ensure conformity to this industry standard. The mill is also audited by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), DEFRA and the local authority Trading Standards department.

Raw Materials

All raw materials purchased by Pen Mill Feeds are from approved suppliers, which are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet the required industry standard. Each raw material is sampled upon intake and retained for full traceability. The material is only accepted if it meets the necessary quality checks conducted by our trained staff before discharge. Each month, every raw material is sent for analysis to a UKAS accredited laboratory. The data received is an important management tool to ensure we are buying what we nutritionally expect.

Manufacture of finished feed

Each process step of manufacture is controlled via a computerised system, this allows for full traceability of each batch of feed made. A sample of every bulk order is taken and retained, a cross section of these are sent away for analysis to a UKAS accredited laboratory, the data is regularly reviewed by our Quality Control Team.
